Milestone Event
Community Provides Input to the BPS Strategic Plan

Opportunity Dates
May 4 - June 1, 2009

Introduction
Please use this occasion to provide input to the BPS strategic planning process. Opinions from various stakeholder perspectives will result in a more balanced and focused strategic plan that addresses the prioritized needs of Brevard's citizens.   We are asking you to participate in a SWOT Analysis.  SWOT is an acronym that stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.  Those terms are described in greater detail below.

Definitions

Strengths (Internal):
The word “Strengths” refers to the current, internal capabilities of the school district that are superior to those of similar programs. They can help meet a customer need, enable the district to better leverage resources, or can provide a base upon which to build. The district's strengths should be capitalized on, and replicated everywhere possible.

Weaknesses (Internal):
The word “Weaknesses” refers to the current, internal capabilities of the school district that may prevent it from achieving advantage, meeting customer needs, or achieving strategic goals. Weaknesses should be minimized and/or eliminated.

Opportunities (External):
The word “Opportunities” refers to external trends and current or impending events and ideas over which the district has little or no control. These items represent opportunities to help the district and should be capitalized on to improve or expand services, asset utilization, or productivity.

Threats (External):
The word “Threats” refers to external events, both current and impending, outside of the district's control that must be considered in future planning. Having an awareness of threats and developing contingency plans within each strategy are key to maintaining stability and making progress toward strategic goals and objectives.
