Welcome to Brevard Public Schools' document Web site.  This separate section of our Web site is designed to promote and support transparency in our organization.  It is the goal of the School Board to be the most transparent organization in the state and in the nation.  On January 20, 2009 the Board adopted a resolution announcing its intent.  This resolution was in response to Attorney General, Bill McCollum's letter urging all governmental organizations to be open and transparent to the public.  A copy of the School Board's resolution and Attorney General, Bill McCollum's letter can be obtained by clicking on the links below.

Resolution

In support of
 Increased transparency FOR
GOVERNMENT AGENCIES

January 20, 2009

 

WHEREAS, The Brevard County School Board is a government agency and must be
accountable to the people; and

WHEREAS, the Florida Constitution provides that the public has the right to know how
government officials spend taxpayer dollars and make decisions affecting citizens; and

WHEREAS, an open, transparent government instills public trust and the free flow of
information serves to keep the process of government honest and robust; and

WHEREAS, The Brevard County School Board seeks to enlighten and empower people
to play an active role in their government at all levels, and to give them access to
information that makes their lives better and their communities stronger.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that The School Board of Brevard County
hereby supports Attorney General, Bill McCollum’s resolution of increased transparency
for all government agencies and encourages all citizens to educate themselves and
become aware of the government processes which affect their lives and directs the
Superintendent to examine additional ways in which the district can make readily
available all appropriate information to the public in a timely manner.
